Season 9
Episode One - Invisible Illness
For our first episode of Season 9, we look at invisible disabilities and illnesses to raise more public awareness about them. In particular, we explore the world of people living with: Depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Sclerosis.
Episode Two - Transport
Transport and physical accessibility is a common problem for people living with physical and vision impairments. The lack of accessibility in the Victorian Public Transport System is a big issue for many people with disabilities. We look at the restrictions for people in wheelchairs and scooters, as well as people who are vision and hearing impaired.
Episode Three - Employment
Many disabilities affect gaining and maintaining employment. In this episode, we examine strategies for people with disabilities that can assist in the preparation for job interviews and applications through a program called Leadership Plus.
We also get a snapshot of the many jobs that people living with disabilities do successfully on a day-to-day basis and how a change in attitude can make the world of difference.
Episode Four - Community Services
There are many other organisations that fight the battle for disability rights, and provide crucial and valuable services to this community. In this episode, we meet a number of these organisations including some that are involved with Grit Media, such as Traveller’s Aid.
Episode Five - Disability Culture (Part One)
It’s time to celebrate disability culture, as we meet some people who don’t let their disability stop them from living a fulfilling life. We focus on a team of people from Yooralla who have made a short-film “Will Paris Find Love?” The episode features this short-film plus an interview with the director Adrian Harris and the lead actress, Wendy!
Episode Six - Disability Culture (Part Two)
This week we celebrate disability culture again as we meet Elvira Alic, who has happily travelled the world in her wheelchair, a couple who use music to celebrate life, plus we discover some of the wonderful online software that is available for people living with disabilities.
Episode Seven - Etiquette
It’s all in the etiquette as we discuss how do you approach a person with a disability on the street? What do we say? What don’t we say? What about family dynamics? We ask all these questions and more.
Simon Nette joins us to have a chat about this controversial topic and Elvira Alic and her brother Amir, join us to talk about managing their relationship as brother and sister.
Episode Eight - Drama
We look at the drama group that resides at the Monkami Centre in Croydon, Victoria. They’re a mixed group of personalities, ages, cultures and looks but all have one thing in common: they love to express themselves through performance!
We see how the expression of drama provides an essential outlet for a special group of talented people. We see sneak peaks of their 2009 take on an Australian classic: Monkami’s Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Episode Nine - Achievement
It’s the ‘feel-good’ episode of the season! We look at people who have overcome amazing adversity and achieved personal success. From writing books, to becoming World Champion Water Skier Kevin Murfitt. To catching up with Dave Broadhurst, Michael Merrett and Brian Caccianiga, to chat about their victory from the Victorian Department of Transport – it’s a jam-packed, success episode!
Episode Ten - Women in the Arts
From Singers, to circus performers, to painters... this is the first of four episodes sponsored by the Victorian Womens’ Trust, that focus on women living with disabilities. We follow Stella Young who engages in a wonderful collection of interviews and reflections from a group of women proudly triumphing in the face of adversity. We meet guests involved with Arts Access Victoria, Circus Oz, and EDEC ArtAbility!
Episode Eleven - Women and Education
This episode explores why women living with a disability who want to access an education, still sadly face discrimination in 2009. We speak with Julie Phillips from Disabilities Discrimination Legal Service and find out the current state of this controversial issue.
We also meet two amazing women Maree Ireland and Lily La who, despite adversity, have achieved success in education and in their careers. We hear their inspiring stories.
Episode Twelve - Women and Reproduction
Women and reproduction is an issue that has been at the core of debate and controversy for many years. Should women with disabilities reproduce? Is it their right? Who is really affected and whose voice has a right to be heard?
This episode proves that when it comes to topics, there really are ‘No Limits’. We speak with women who offer their personal stories and the Victorian Women with Disabilities Network.
Episode Thirteen- Women and Motherhood
Women and parenting is the theme of the last episode of Season 9 which celebrates women who are mothers. Going beyond reproduction, what is life like for mothers with disabilities? We look at personal stories of mothers who live with a variety of disabilities in an intimate and beautiful end to another season of No Limits.
